Funnyman Kevin Smith is coming to New Zealand for the first time, bringing his An Evening with Kevin Smith show to Auckland this September.

The performance will be broken into two parts - a stand-up comedy set of around 30 minutes, before a 30 - 45 minute Q&A session.

Smith is the filmmaker behind Clerks, Jersey Girl, Dogma, Tusk, Chasing Amy, Red State, Mallrats, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Cop Out, among others.

He cast himself as Silent Bob in many of his films and has also found success as a comedian, podcaster, author and comic book writer.

"We've always been huge fans of Kevin Smith's acting and directing," says promoter Robin Fernando.

"When the opportunity came to bring him to New Zealand for first time ever, it was something we jumped on immediately. We're really excited and looking forward to it."

Smith is said to be very excited about the visit as a huge fan of New Zealand and Sir Peter Jackson. Robin Fernando is looking into getting him to Wellington for a visit to Weta Workshop.

Tickets for the September 17 show at Auckland's SkyCity Theatre go on sale July 30.

There will be a local comedian as a warm-up act, who is yet to be announced.
