Oscar winner Marisa Tomei is in talks to play Spider-Man's Aunt May in the upcoming superhero franchise reboot.

The 50-year-old actor has just been cast as a lesbian billionaire in the upcoming second season of TV drama Empire, and now it seems she's set for a very different role as Peter Parker's aunt.

Tom Holland has already been cast as Parker in director Jon Watts' new movie. Marvel and Sony recently hand-picked Holland to play Spider-Man after months of meetings and screen tests with eager young actors.

Aunt May was previously played on the big screen by Rosemary Harris and Sally Field.

Tomei won the 1993 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for My Cousin Vinny. She was later nominated for the same award for her roles in The Wrestler and In the Bedroom.
