Alternative artist Tiny Ruins has been announced as the support act for Ryan Adams at his New Zealand shows next week.

The 2014 Vodafone New Zealand Music Award winner will perform before the American folk rocker's sets at Auckland's Town Hall on Tuesday, July 14 and Wellington's Opera House on Thursday, July 16.

Tiny Ruins began as an alias for singer-songwriter Hollie Fullbrook, who has since added Cass Basil and Alexander Freer to the line-up.

The band has toured Australia, Europe, the USA and Canada with The Handsome Family, Calexico, Sharon Van Etten as well as opening for the likes of Beach House, Joanna Newsom, Father John Misty and Fleet Foxes.

This year, Tiny Ruins released their sophomore album Brightly Painted One and toured New Zealand with Bic Runga.

Tiny Ruins also recorded a song with David Lynch for Lorde's Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 soundtrack, although it was dropped from the album and film.

Ryan Adams is returning to New Zealand for the first time since his Ashes and Fire solo theatre tour in 2012.

He will be joined onstage by his live band, The Shining.

Tickets are on sale now.
