Jon Stewart has recorded his final episode of The Daily Show, after 16 years of grilling politicians and world culture.
Those who've seen his show will miss Stewart's unique ability to throw knock-out punches between the punch lines.
What started as a comedy show in 1996, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart morphed into one of the America's most influential voices of satire.
Stewart's popularity gave him the clout to welcome the biggest names in the world, earning him real-life accolades as a trusted newsman. Something he pondered last night, joking he had been the cause of the world's problems.
"The world is demonstrably worse than when I started. Have I caused this?" Stewart quipped.
Fans started lining up here outside the Daily Show's Manhattan studio at 2am hoping to score a seat for Stewart's last laugh.
In 16 years, his show won 20 Emmys, and launched the careers of several others, including incoming Late Show host Stephen Colbert.
As for Stewart, he hasn't said what he'll do next - fans will just have to wait and see.
