Mafia III announced

Mafia III

There's a new Mafia game in development that will be officially unveiled next week, publisher 2K has announced.

The worldwide premiere of the game's reveal will take place at 12am on Thursday, August 6 (NZST), on YouTube. It will introduce fans to "the next instalment in the popular series known for immersing players in a world of organised crime through rich narrative storytelling and a beautifully crafted game world featuring period-accurate cars, music and fashion," says 2K.

All that's been revealed of the game so far is a logo and a single piece of promotional art (above).

This announcement comes following 2K's registration of a number of Mafia III domain names late last month, and comments from voice actor Rick Pasqualone that 2K "might have some Mafia news very soon" back in January this year.

The Mafia series is a well-regarded open-world action adventure game series, similar to Grand Theft Auto but less satirical and set across the 1930s, '40s and '50s. The first game, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, was developed by Illusion Softworks and was released in 2002, followed by 2K Czech's Mafia II in 2010.
