Nick Gordon's lawyer has denied the new charges facing his client in a civil lawsuit brought against him over the death of his girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown.

On Friday, Brown's conservator filed an amendment to the US$40 million civil lawsuit against Gordon, alleging that he gave the 22-year-old a "toxic cocktail" of drink and drugs after an argument. It is claimed he then placed her in the bathtub in which she nearly drowned. Brown was hospitalised, and then later treated in a hospice in Georgia. She died on July 26.

Gordon's lawyer Jose Baez has now replied to the claims via a spokesman, telling USA Today that the lawsuit is frivolous.

He says, "The recent lawsuit against Nick is slanderous and meritless. Nick has been heartbroken and destroyed over the loss of his love and it's shameful that such baseless allegations have been presented publicly. Nick has engaged civil counsel and intends to defend the lawsuit vigorously and expose it for what it is: a fictitious assault against the person who loved Krissy most."

Baez is based in Florida, and famously defended Casey Anthony on murder charges in connection with the death of her daughter Caylee in 2013. She was later acquitted.
