Robert Pattinson apparently swerved this year's Venice Film Festival to avoid bumping into ex Kristen Stewart.

The Twilight stars were the hottest couple in showbiz until Kristen was caught on camera sharing an intimate moment with married film director Rupert Sanders in 2012.

Kristen, 25, was at the annual film festival over the weekend to promote new flick Equals and Robert was also expected to attend with movie The Childhood of a Leader. However the British star was a no-show, citing work commitments as the reason. Insiders say otherwise though.

"He didn't want the story to be all about how he and Kristen were nearly bumping into each other. Venice is very small… and there are only so many parties and hotels," a source divulged to Page Six.

Robert is currently in Ireland shooting The Lost City of Z, alongside Charlie Hunnam and Sienna Miller.

His schedule may be packed at the moment, with two other movies in the pipeline, but Robert recently admitted he'd be up for another Twilight film.

When asked by Elle France if he'd say yes to a spinoff from author Stephenie Meyer, he delighted fans by answering "why not".

He also called the vampire franchise a "happy accident" which led to him meeting David Cronenberg. The pair have since worked together on movies like Cosmopolis and Maps to the Stars.

The publication also touched on the subject of his Kristen romance, whom he met on the Twilight set, to which the 29-year-old replied: "I preferred not to broach the subject".
