US police crack down on Star Wars spoilers

Posting spoilers isn't a crime - yet (Facebook/Phillypolice)

Since the release of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens the internet has been a minefield of spoilers, but it wouldn't be a thing if the Philadelphia police had their way.

The box office titan may only be a few days old, but it is set to smash global records.

It's the most anticipated film in recent memory and there will be queues and crowds waiting to see it for weeks.

And for those fans, going on the internet will be fraught with danger they might accidentally stumble across who dies and who doesn't.

To help counter the secrets getting out, the Philadelphia Police Department has used the force of their Facebook page to deter people from ruining the experience for others.

"No, posting #StarWarsForceAwakens spoilers online is not a crime. Yes, it should be," the post reads.

"However, any illegal Sith behavior (sic) will still be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Not in our town, Kylo."

The message is accompanied by a police officer guarding two storm troopers with their hands on a police patrol car.
