Move over Art Green, the new Bachelor has been announced for the upcoming TV3 season which kicks off in March.

Jordan Mauger, 32, is a second assistant director, who works in the film industry in Christchurch.

Saying he's not normally one to 'throw himself out there like this', Mauger told Newshub he decided to be on the show because he felt it was the right time to meet "that special person".

"To any person outside The Bachelor it must seem like a crazy task to take on," says Mauger.

"But to be honest, meeting someone and the dating scene these days is crazy too. For me, it was great to be able to set aside some time to focus on meeting someone. What a unique and special way to meet a girl, who in turn will be unique and special to me."

He says his family were right behind the decision too.

"They have been supportive in the my quest to find someone, basically so I can stop being the third wheel in the family," says Mauger.

When questioned on how he compares to ever-popular Green and what he believes viewers will think of him, Mauger says he is comfortable knowing everybody will have their own opinions.

"Different folks, different strokes.  Everyone is entitled to embrace the show in their own way."

In the first episode, all 23 of the Bachelorettes will be revealed.

The 2016 season of The Bachelor New Zealand launches Monday 7 at 7:30pm.
