One of the pioneers of New Zealand broadcasting has died.

Award-winning broadcaster and Radio Hauraki co-founder Chris Parkinson died last night, three days shy of his 75th birthday.

Mr Parkinson was best known when he joined a team of rebellious youngsters, and waged war against the stuffiness of state-controlled radio in the '60s.
