British indie pop band The Smiths have made it to the Twitter stage, but not by the hand of any of its former members -- and not with Morrissey's permission.
Warner Music UK began the account "purely to celebrate" The Smiths history and success, Billboard confirmed.
However a post on the official Morrissey fan website True to You made opinions of the Twitter addition deathly clear.
"Morrissey would like to stress that this account has not been sanctioned by him and has no connection to him. Follow it at your peril," True to You posted.
Perhaps in its own defence, The Smiths official account later posted:
"Please note this account is purely to celebrate the history and music of The Smiths."
Morrissey is known to have an outlandish, satirical sense of humour -- and is also known to be unforgiving. He spent 22 years refusing to pay former band member Mike Joyce a quarter of the bands earnings, before being forced by the courts.
