Newshub leads the way in viewing

Newshub Live at 6pm has beaten One News in ratings for the first time since launch week.

Last night TV3's 6pm bulletin hosted by Mike McRoberts and Hilary Barry, secured 179,600 viewers, leaving One News behind on 167,600  in the target demographic of 25-54. It is the third time in 2016 TV3 has out-performed TV One.

Current affairs programme Story, on at 7pm, followed suit with 127,300 viewers versus 105,400 watching Seven Sharp.

Newshub's success shone throughout the day. Paul Henry matched its competitor Breakfast. And Newshub Late, hosted by Samantha Hayes, had more than 4,000 viewers than Tonight.

MediaWorks Acting Chief News Officer Richard Sutherland said "following the launch of Newshub, we're thrilled to see New Zealanders engage with our modern, dynamic news service".

"We're committed to bringing our audience the best news, with the best journalists, across all platforms  and while last night's ratings are early days, it's gratifying to see viewers switching to our TV news programmes to watch Mike, Hilary, Duncan, Heather and the rest of the team."
