Comedy presenter Paul Ego from TV3's 7 Days has given Newshub his top picks out of the programme for the 2016 New Zealand Comedy festival.
He says 'Laughing Matters' and so does the comedy festival programme. It's thick, almost as think as a thin sandwich; it has 60 pages, 130 comedy shows and 200 comedians in it.
It's an absolute 'glut' of comedy -- or 'glute' for those of you who aren't gluten free.
So, how do you decide what to spend your comedy dollar on? Here's what he did: he chose a little bit of local, a pinch of international and a nob of narcissism.
Here are Paul Ego's top five comedy festival picks for 2016.
5. The Comedy Goblins
If you want your comedy local and fresh, Paul recommends the Comedy Goblins -- some puber-tee-hee-hee from last year's Class Comedians. This is a chance to see some talented teens who may one day go on to be New Zealand comedy greats.
Does Paul feel threatened that his own son is one of these young comics? Hohoho -- yep.
4. Arj Barker
So many great comics from that big place called overseas this year, but my international favourite is Californian Arj Barker. Arj has been described as the guy who "takes observations and turns them into comedy gold"-- and yes, there is such a thing as 'Comedy Gold', its equivalent to roughly 30 kilos of New Zealand Gold, or 'cheese' as we know it.
3. Ben Hurley
As Hawera's hairiest humourist, 7Days regular Ben Hurley has won every comedy award there is to win in this country and his show Earth Planet World visits every other country one joke at a time -- which is the safest way to consume them when travelling.
2. Paul Douglas
Paul Douglas is one of the funniest New Zealand comics I've seen live in quite some time and his show True Defective will give you the comedy you deserve.
1. 7Days vs. The World
This show will be recorded live at Q Theatre this Wednesday, April 20 -- and tickets are selling fast. If you miss out you can watch it on TV3 on Friday, April 22, at the usual time of 9:30pm.
The World team this year is Australia's Chopper, England's James Acaster & Lloyd Langford from Wales. They verse our NZ team: Paul Ego, Rose Matafeo & Dai Henwood. Jeremy Corbett will also be there, although no-one's quite sure what he does.
So many great shows to choose from this year, so go to comedyfestival.co.nz and just pick something.
The important thing is to get out there and have a good laugh because, as the programme says, 'Laughing Matters'.
Maybe not as much as personal hygiene, but it's still important.
Newshub.
