Prince's last days

Pop icon and one of music's most influential figures Prince has died overnight at the aged of 57.

But it's not the first time this month he's made headlines; Illness forced the singer to cancel shows at the Fox Theatre on April 7.

"It is with profound regrets that Prince has to postpone two shows scheduled for tonight at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.  Both shows, scheduled at 7 and 10 PM, as part of his Piano & A Microphone Tour, will be postponed as the entertainer is battling the flu," Fox Theatre said in a statement at the time.

A week later he took the stage in Atlanta to prove to fans he wasn't as ill as had been assumed. He played two 80 minute sets -- unusually short for him. He took to his piano and played classic songs, and a playful addition of the Peanuts theme song, CNN News has reported.

Last week, heading home to Minnesota, the singer's private jet was forced to land in Illinois due to a medical emergency. He was rushed to hospital.

His publicist later said, "He is fine and at home."

On Saturday, he performed for an intimate crowd. Showing off his new European-built purple piano and guitar.

Last night, a man called 911 from Prince's estate. Paramedics attempted to revive him but failed.  He was pronounced dead at 10:07 am (local time), less than half an hour after emergency services responded to calls.

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning," publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that surround his death. An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Friday.
