Irish singer Sinead O'Connor has been found alive and well, just 24 hours after she was reported missing.

Chicago police found her not long ago, Reuters reports.

O'Connor was being sought by police after she was reported missing on Sunday morning (local time) when she did not return from a bicycle ride to where she was staying in the suburb of Wilmette.

Police were "seeking to check the well-being" of the musician after she reportedly left the area and did not return, they said in a statement.

The 49-year-old had posted some a message addressed to her son just hours before she disappeared.

It said: "Jake, kindly go to the court on Tuesday and take custody your brother from Tusla. My lawyer will be making the illegal way yourself and Donal got him into Tusla (lying to the cops etc) known to the judge. Expect to be in trouble. [sic]"

In 2007, O'Connor revealed on the Oprah Winfrey Show that she has been diagnosed as bipolar and had attempted suicide in 1999.

In November 2015 she posted a message on Facebook saying she had "taken an overdose".
