Ten Tenors kick off 21-date NZ tour

The Ten Tenors are in New Zealand for a marathon 21-date tour, which takes in all the major centres, as well as places like Ashburton and Napier.

Newshub met the Australian group ahead of their first show in Wellington.

The Ten Tenors are Paul, Michael, Sam, Toby, Caleb, Cameron, Scott, Jared, Adrien and JD. So how does the group manage not to implode with 10 guys performing, travelling and living together on tour?

"We settle it all on stage, you know," says Jared Newall. "It's all out there in front of the audience.

"If there's any beefs, or people coming to blows, it's all out there in the songs. We work it off and then once the show's over we go and have a drink.

"There just seems to be this chemistry that's worked from the start."

Their new show, The Power of Ten, is a mix of the classics you'd expect from a group of tenors.

"Because there are 10 of us, for exactly that reason, we get to run the gamut -- from rock music, to opera to pop music as well," says Cameron Barclay.

The group was founded in the mid '90s and have been touring with a revolving cast of tenors ever since.

"We started touring Australia and it was in very short order," says Newall. "Then it was over to Europe; then very quickly over to North America, South America, Africa, Asia, to the point now where we're touring non-stop at the moment."

With two US tours on the cards after New Zealand, they won't be slowing down any time soon.
