Block-a-holics can start to gear up for MediaWorks season five of TV3's The Block NZ, beginning on Sunday May 29.

However this season is different, with young couples being replaced by two teams of women and two teams of men in the first The Block NZ: Girls Vs Boys.

The teams will compete to renovate four 1980s town houses in Auckland's Meadowbank.

This year's teams are as follows:

Architect Paul Izzard and interior designer Fiona McLeod will be this year's Room Reveal judges.

Founder of leading New Zealand architecture and design firm IZZARD, Paul has over 20 years’ local and international experience in the design industry.

Fiona has been involved in the interior design industry since 2002 and runs her own PR and events company.

The Block NZ: Girls Vs Boys starts Sunday May 29 at 7pm and continues Monday through to Wednesday at 7:30pm on TV3, and then on 3NOW.

The Block NZ: Girls Vs Boys is the local version of the renovation-reality format which sees teams each transform a house with the goal of selling them at auction for the highest price.

Each team keeps the profit above reserve from the sale of their property on auction night, and the 2016 winning team takes home an extra prize of $100,000.

Any house which does not sell on the night remains on the market for a month, and it is still possible for the team who renovated it to share in any profits.

Winners of The Block NZ last year, Brooke and Mitch, sold their villa $190,000 above the reserve price of $1,160,000. With the first place bonus prize money of $100,000 they walked away with $290,000.

AMP is proud to be on board as broadcast sponsor for their second season, along with returning programme partners Bosch Power Tools, Freedom, Haier, Honda, Mico Bathrooms, Peter Hay Kitchens, Pita Pit and new programme partners Central Heating New Zealand and Resene.
