Prince's yellow cloud guitar up for auction

An iconic electric guitar used by the late Prince could be yours if the price is right.

Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills is auctioning a signature yellow cloud electric guitar that the legendary performer used at concerts from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s.

When it hits the auction block on Friday (local time), it comes with an opening bid of $30,000 but could fetch six figures.

The guitar was personally designed and commissioned by Prince and carries the hallmarks of his famous "love symbol".

Heritage Auctions says the guitar is instantly recognizable and was used as Prince's main guitar in most of his early videos, album recordings and stage tours.

The auction house will also offer up other Prince memorabilia for auction including an early demo tape from the artist which includes an unreleased song.

The Prince auction runs alongside the auction of other celebrity items including 100 pieces of memorabilia from Whitney Houston's estate and even a lock of David Bowie's hair.
