Jono and Ben, Duncan Garner switch radio shows

By Roisin Kelly

Today marked a strange day in New Zealand media – Duncan Garner became a bogan radio host on The Rock FM, meanwhile Jono and Ben tried their hands at hard-hitting talkback radio.

Chaos or genius?

When Duncan Garner initially arrived at the Rock FM, he appeared to be experiencing a level of culture shock.

"What’s this vanilla candle doing here? Smells like a bloody strip club," he said.

However the RadioLIVE and Story host soon became comfortable in the foreign, vanilla-scented studio setting - Joining forces with The Rock FM Drive producer Duncan Heyde to make the one-off, crassly named 'Double D Show'.

The two Duncan's provided relationship advice to a punter, who kept finding himself watching Shortland Street and drinking wine without his significant other.

Garner’s words of wisdom?

"Just switch over to Story mate."

The 'Double D's' also prank called a fresh produce store in Southland with terribly written vegetable puns and did a live simulcast with Jono and Ben over at RadioLIVE.

However, many of the Rock FM callers appeared to be loyal Jono and Ben fans who just wanted to know the RadioLIVE frequency.

Over on RadioLIVE 'Jono and Ben Garnished Drive' there were mixed reviews.

One caller, Carol asked, "What's going on there at the station today? Sounds like a load of s**t".

The text machine was bombarded with positive messages including:

"Not much worse than usual, really"

"Hey JAB you should stay here!"

And, "No I can't listen to serious news with Jono and Ben - it's wrong. But I’m too lazy to change stations."

Jono and Ben kept an admirable level of professionalism. They interviewed Jacinda Ardern about Labour’s 100th birthday and even coped with live calls following multiple explosions at a block of Pakuranga flats.

Although both parties enjoyed the station swap, they appeared to be relieved upon returning to their home stations.
