Kiwi funnyman Rhys Darby is joining action icon Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson on the cast of the upcoming reboot of Jumanji.

The pair are currently working on the film in Hawaii and the first official production image (above) was released on Johnson's social media accounts this week.

Welcoming Darby onto the team, Johnson also jokingly apologised for co-star Kevin Hart's "diva behaviour".

Johnson and Hart are good friends who developed a faux rivalry while filming action comedy Central Intelligence together.

Also starring in the continuation of the hit 1995 film is Jack Black, Morgan Turner, Nick Jonas and Karen Gillan.

Jumanji is being directed by Jake Kasdan (Sex Tape, Bad Teacher) and is set for a July 2017 release.
