Supervillain Harley Quinn is set to get her own movie following the success Suicide Squad, the cinematic debut of Margot Robbie's version of the character.

The DC Comics character had a controversial, abusive relationship with Jared Leto's character the Joker in that film, in which she starred alongside Will Smith, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis and Jai Courtney.

The Harley Quinn movie joins a busy slate of upcoming Warner Bros releases, with Justice League, Man of Steel 2, Cyborg, Shazam and a Batman standalone projects already announced.

In the comics, Quinn is an intelligent criminal mastermind, who frequently breaks the fourth wall like Marvel's Deadpool character, and utilises even more gadgets than Batman.

The DC Comics Universe includes Wonder Woman - arguably the most famous female comic book character of all time - but Quinn's Gotham City itself is also called home by a number of notable female characters.

In the comics and animated series, she rubs shoulders with Batgirl, Catwoman and the Huntress but most of all with Poison Ivy, her romantic partner.
