US hip-hop artist Fetty Wap and his producer Tony Fadd are being sued after a Danish musician claimed he bought exclusive rights to a beat sampled on the rapper's Grammy-nominated hit.
Lazar Lakic claims he purchased the rights to a beat called 'Hello' from Wap's producer Fadd in 2014, and was shocked to hear it used on the 2015 chart-topper 'Trap Queen'.
The track was hugely popular following its initial release, rising to top of the US rap charts the following year and second in the US Billboard 100. It also stayed within the top 10 of the US Billboard charts for 12 weeks in 2015.
Fetty Wap's lawyer Navarro Gray told TMZ that his client had lawfully bought rights to the beat from Fadd, and has a contract that will back the claim up.
Mr Gray also confirmed that should the lawsuit be successful, Fetty Wap will go after Fadd to cover any damages or royalties awarded to Lakic.
As well as suing for damages, Lakic is also asking that all copies of Fetty Wap's single are destroyed and all sales halted - a request that is highly unlikely to be accepted.
