Disgraced US Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte has been embarrassed again - although this time, he's not to blame.

Following his getting caught and punished for lying about being robbed in Rio, Lochte is attempting to resurrect his public image with a turn on Dancing With The Stars.

But during his debut on the show, six protesters - some wearing anti-Lochte T-shirts - stormed the stage to remind everyone how people felt about him.

The 12-time Olympic swimming medallist was recently banned for 10 months from competition after being caught fabricating his fantasy about being robbed in Brazil.

MediaWorks TV presenter Dominic Bowden was backstage during the incident, and told The Edge FM the interruption caused panic.

"Honestly, in all my years of live television I have never seen anything like it," said Bowden.

"It was this weird moment where everyone thought, maybe this was some sort of terrorist attack... It was intense stuff."

Lochte was visibly shocked during the incident as one of the stage invaders who got the closest to him was violently tackled by security.

The programme quickly cut to commercials as the invaders were taken out.

Given the 'embellishment' Lochte created around his antics in Rio, it's anyone's guess what his version of the Dancing With The Stars incident will be.
