Popular animated TV show The Simpsons has addressed its uncanny prediction that Donald Trump would become president of the US.
In the opening of the latest episode Bart Simpson writes "being right sucks" on his classroom's blackboard, in reference to an episode from 2000 which predicted the Celebrity Apprentice star would be president.
The reference is explicit enough, but to make sure nobody was in any doubt what the show's creators were referring to, they released a tweet about it too:
Sixteen years ago, the show aired an episode called 'Bart to the Future', which tasked US president-elect Lisa Simpson with cleaning up after a disastrous presidential reign by the billionaire tycoon.
The writer of the episode has stated Mr Trump was chosen so Lisa would have to deal with "problems that were beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could".
"That's why we had Trump be President before her," Dan Greaney told the Hollywood Reporter.
"[It] just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane."
Bart's "being right sucks" message launched 'Havana Wild Weekend', episode seven of season 28, which aired in the US on Sunday night (local time).
