Brad Pitt has reportedly been cleared of abusing his children during a private plane trip in an incident which occurred just before his split from wife Angelina Jolie.

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services made the ruling on Wednesday (local time), according to reports.

It's very good news for the Fight Club star in his custody war with Jolie for their six children - Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Vivienne and Knox.

They are currently living with the Tomb Raider star in a rented home, with Pitt spending time with them during monitored visits.

In what's being described as an "exhaustive investigation", social workers interviewed the parents, children and witnesses on the plane before concluding that no further action needs to be taken.

Jolie, who filed for divorce on September 22, is currently seeking sole custody, while Pitt wants joint custody, and is more likely to get it following this development.
