CNN has denied broadcasting hardcore porn for half-an-hour on a cable network in Boston, despite earlier appearing to confirm the mishap.

Tuning in to watch Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown, subscribers were shocked to find the show's name had taken on a whole new meaning, The Independent reported.

"Did anyone else with RCN in Boston see the hardcore porn that was broadcast by CNN by mistake?" one surprised viewer asked on Twitter.

RCN, a cable provider based in New Jersey, responded saying they were unaware of the inappropriate transmission.

"We have not had any reports of the programming issue you mentioned on CNN in Boston," they wrote. "If you're still having an issue with that channel, please DM us your address so we can troubleshoot when you're home."

A spokesperson for CNN however acknowledged there had been a mix-up, saying: "The RCN cable operator in Boston aired inappropriate content for 30 minutes on CNN last night. CNN has asked for an explanation."

Hours later, the network issued a denial it had ever happened.

"Despite media reports to the contrary, RCN assures us that there was no interruption of CNN's programming in the Boston area last night," its latest statement claims.

One of the porn stars featured in the alleged transmission, Riley Quinn, tweeted CNN to thank them for the extra publicity.

Popular porn website Brazzers also mocked the alleged incident online, tweeting "ironically showing 30 minutes of hardcore porn was probably the least offensive thing @CNN has done all year".

CNN earlier this week definitely caused controversy after broadcasting an interview with a banner reading 'Alt-right founder questions if Jews are people'.
