The iconic Daleks of Doctor Who are rolling into New Zealand cinemas for a special limited run that marks the return of a lost classic.
The Power of the Daleks is a legendary Time Lord adventure among fans, but no complete film recordings are known to have survived after the master negatives were destroyed in an archive purge in 1974.
The new six-part animation is being released 50 years after the original's only UK broadcast, based on the the original audio recordings, surviving photographs and film clips.
It features the regeneration - or as it was then called “renewal” - of First Doctor, William Hartnell, into Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton, and follows the Time Lord and his companions Polly (Anneke Wills) and Ben (Michael Craze) as they do battle with the Daleks on the planet Vulcan.
Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks is produced and directed by Charles Norton, with character designs from comic book artists Martin Geraghty and Adrian Salmon.
It will be playing at Rialto Cinemas from November 12.
