Kiwi funnyman Jemaine Clement has revealed his kleptomaniac side in a new interview promoting Disney's Moana.

In the clip, the Flight of the Conchords star introduces the character he voices in the film while stealing whatever he can get his hands on and hiding it under his jacket.

"I play a giant magical hermit crab called Tamatoa who loves shiny things, trinkets, goblets, gold, gems. His obsession has driven him to madness," he says.

"He's kind of a real collector of things. It was a real stretch for me as far as acting is concerned."

Clement also takes a fruit basket addressed to his co-star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in the clip, joking: "Oops, they spelt my name wrong".

The comedian and the action icon are joined on the cast by Auli'i Cravalho as the titular Moana, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison and Nicole Scherzinger.

Moana is set for release in New Zealand on Boxing Day.
