Rapper Lil Wayne has stormed out of an interview after saying he doesn't know what #BlackLivesMatter was then insisting the movement doesn't matter to him.

The 'A Milli' hitmaker was asked about his theory that racism doesn't exist in the US during an interview for TV show Nightline, which appeared to frustrate him.

After asking what 'Black Lives Matter' was - despite previously yelling the phrase at a concert - Lil Wayne claimed the civil rights movement: "Just sounds weird".

"I am a young, black, rich (expletive) - if that don't let you know that America understands black (expletive) matter these days, I don't know what it is," he continued.

"Don't come at me with that dumb s**t man. MY life matter."

Asked by the interviewer, Linsey Davis, if he separates himself from the movement, Lil Wayne said it doesn't have anything to do with him and he didn't feel connected to it at all.

"If you do, you're crazy as s**t - YOU," he said angrily to Ms Davis.

"I'm a gangbanger, man. I'm connected."

He then swore about not being a politician and walked out of the interview early.

Lil Wayne has since told TMZ he became agitated earlier in the interview, when Ms Davis asked how he'd feel if the misogynistic slurs he uses often in his music were applied to his daughter.

"Apologies to anyone who was offended," the rapper, real name Dwayne Carter, told the gossip website.
