The Newshub guide to Secret Santa

Whether you're the office Grinch, or you don your reindeer earrings from October, every workplace is forced to embrace the festive spirit come the holiday season. This comes with it the age-old tradition you either love or loathe: Secret Santa.

Here at Newshub, we've put together a comprehensive guide to teach you all you need to know about being Santa for the day.

This means there isn't that awkward moment where someone buys you an expensive glass-blown photo frame (for example), and you give them one of the two chocolate bars you bought on a hangry whim at the petrol station.  That frame then has to sit on your desk as a marker of cheapskate shame for the next 12 months.

There are plenty of things to gossip about in the workplace at Christmas time, like who's going to hook up at the Christmas party and who's not going home for the holidays due to that awkward family fallout. So if you're going to keep your mouth shut on one thing, it's who got who for Secret Santa. Don't be a Christmas bore and spoil the fun.

In the first, you pick a name out of the hat, buy a gift for that person, everyone goes home bored happy. In the second, everyone contributes a gift and you have the option to steal from your colleagues. (Openly this time, not just from their instant coffee stash in their bottom drawer like you've been doing all year).

So with this knowledge under your belt, go forth and spread the Christmas cheer with the best of them.
