Patrick Gower pranks Duncan Garner on last day

Newshub political editor Patrick Gower has pranked Duncan Garner on his last day as the drive host on RadioLIVE.

Paddy called up the show claiming to be 'Baz', a man who wanted to thank Duncan for his work on stories about the housing bubble.

Paddy said he knew the host "wouldn't be able to resist" the praise.

"G'day mate and thanks very much for everything you've done over the last few years exposing the housing bubble, working hard on the economy and working hard for ordinary kiwis," Paddy started off.

"One regret though, I didn't like the way that you tried juicy puff (synthetic drug) and I thought that set a bad example..."

Duncan could hardly contain his laughter as he realised: "Paddy Gower, I've got you ... this is Paddy Gower!"

Paddy went on: "No, mate, honestly I meant all of that, except for the Juicy Puf... sorry to end this year on a bit of a prank, I know it's pretty lame."

"When you tried Juicy Puff you should have won an Oscar for your performance there mate because anyone who smokes synthetic weed or otherwise knows people don't react like that," he said.

Paddy knew the way to get onto the show was by complimenting Duncan.

"I knew when we said we would trick our way through and say we were called 'Baz' and we wanted to thank you for your work on the housing bubble, we knew you wouldn't be able to resist.

But nothing gets past Duncan Garner.

"I looked at line one and saw the name 'Baz' line up and I thought 'is this really Baz' and it wasn't!"
