Arnold Schwarzenegger's epic Celebrity Apprentice trailer

Action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger has released a big-budget, three-minute trailer for his new reality TV show as it debuts in the US.

The Commando star is filling the boots of US President-elect Donald Trump as the host of The New Celebrity Apprentice, which premieres on TV3 on January 12.

Trump remains attached to the new version of the show as executive producer.

"My dream was always America," intones Schwarzenegger in the trailer.

"At every step of the way, they told me it was impossible, that my dream was just too big. But I had a plan."

As he did in an interview with Newshub in 2015, the Running Man star addresses his own rags-to-riches life story in the trailer, using it to inspire others to achieve greatness.

"I became a millionaire way before I swung the sword in Conan the Barbarian. I broke records, I even worked harder and broke barriers. It was never easy and I did not rest until my dreams became reality."

The show debuted in the US to poorer ratings than when it was hosted by Trump.

The Celebrity Apprentice debuted nine years ago on NBC in the US and drew an average of 11 million viewers, while Schwarzenegger's first episode had an audience of just under 5 million, according to Nielsen's preliminary ratings.

The bodybuilding champion and former Governor of California likely sees the disappointing ratings as yet another challenge to overcome.

"Just when they said that there were no mountains left to climb, they were wrong. Again," he says, as the trailer comes to a close.

"I'm back."

The New Celebrity Apprentice will be broadcast on TV3 on Thursday, January 12, at 7:30pm.
