A booze-addicted, heavy metal-singing panda doesn't sound like it fits the requirements of an adorable cartoon character.

But Aggretsuko the angry red panda has joined the ranks of Japanese company Sanrio, famous for their pastel-coloured Hello Kitty.

Their newest addition is a 25-year-old office worker at a trading company in Tokyo. She struggles through her job daily, and as she prepares to leave, her boss piles on a new workload.

Understandably, she gets pretty mad. She takes to the bar, indulges in some heavy metal karaoke and bleeds from her eyes.

Sanrio is known to release slightly more unusual characters, notably Kirimichan the salmon fillet and Gutedama the sleepy egg. The company's maintained a global cult of fans since their launch in 1960, renowned for their cute, loveable characters.

And surprisingly, Aggretsuko fits right in.
