Will & Grace making a comeback

Hit comedy TV show Will & Grace is returning to US network NBC with brand new episodes.

The sitcom ran from 1998 to 2006, but will be back on screens this year with a 10-episode ninth season.

A surprise US election-themed mini-episode, done without NBC's involvement, was released in 2016. Its buzz triggered negotiations for an official comeback.

"This groundbreaking series for everything from gay rights to social and political commentary - all disguised as a high-speed train of witty pop culture - is coming back where it belongs," says NBC's Robert Greenblatt.

"We're thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and most defining comedies in NBC history is coming back."

The show's original creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan will act as show-runners and executive producers, and of course, original cast members Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally will all also be back.

Messing, in particular, is thrilled.
