Beyonce supports transgender students after Trump removes protections

Beyonce has voiced her support for the LGBTQ community following the President Donald Trump's withdrawal of trans youth protections in public schools.

The rule change reverses legislation introduced by Barack Obama and could force students to use toilets that don't correspond with their gender identity.

The 'Single Ladies' hitmaker posted on Facebook, saying "LGBTQ students need to know we support them," with a link to a support campaign.

The '100 Days of Kindness' support campaign provides transgender youth with encouraging messages and videos.

Beyonce's 64 million Facebook followers were also encouraged to donate to the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), an organisation supporting LGBT issues.

President Trump's quashing of protections for transgender students doesn't align with what he's previously said. In 2016, the reality TV star said North Carolina's so-called 'bathroom law' - which directs transgender people to use the bathroom that matches the gender on their birth certificates - had caused unnecessary strife.

Beyonce is one of many celebrities to speak out against Mr Trump's revoking of transgender protections. Katy Perry, Sia, and high-profile Trump supporter Caitlyn Jenner have all raised concerns about the move.
