Emily Ratajkowski has defended US First Lady Melania Trump on Twitter, saying nobody should "care about" her nude photos or sexual history.

The model and actress claims to have been chatting to a reporter who alluded to debunked media reports that President Donald Trump's current wife once worked as an escort.

Ratajkowski, who shot to fame in Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' video and has since starred in films like Gone Girl and We Are Your Friends, was far from impressed.

"Sat next to a journalist from the NYT  last night who told me 'Melania is a hooker'. Whatever your politics, it's crucial to call this out for what it is: slut shaming," Ratajkowski  wrote on Twitter.

"I don't care about her nudes or sexual history and no one should. Gender specific attacks are disgusting sexist bullsh*t."

Ratajkowski was a Bernie Sanders fan ahead of last year's US election and called Mr Trump a power hungry "loud mouth" in an interview.

Following the election result, she posted a provocative Instagram pic captioned with "my body, my choice" - a slogan used by opponents of Mr Trump's anti-abortion stances and in reference to his infamous "grab em by the p**sy" statement.
