First trailer released for Carpool Karaoke spinoff show

A concept made popular by James Corden's Late Late Show has been given its own series - and the British comedian only appears to play a reasonably small role in the new show.

A trailer for Carpool Karaoke: The Series features a swathe of A-list celebrities interspersed with plenty less recognisable faces - and Corden himself appears alongside Hollywood actor Will Smith.

The series - which will be 16 episodes long - is an exclusive release by Apple Music, which bought the rights to the segment after it shot to viral sensation status in 2015.

The solution to the format becoming dry or analogous appears to be by combining celebrities who would make amusing pairings - the likes of wrestler John Cena and former basketball star Shaquille O'Neal, for example.

Other pairs that feature in the trailer are singer Ariana Grande and Family Guy creator Seth Macfarlane, country artist Blake Shelton and TV host Chelsea Handler, and R&B artists Alicia Keys and John Legend.

The series also looks as though it may feature pranks, with a brief shot of O'Neal and Cena popping up from behind a bakery counter to the surprise of a customer featuring in the trailer.
