Guardians of the Galaxy to meet Avengers in Infinity War

It's official.

The Guardians of the Galaxy will fight alongside the Avengers in Marvel's next superhero-studded blockbuster.

A new video from Marvel takes fans behind the scenes of the first day of shooting for Avengers: Infinity War.

It starts with a wide shot of ruins surrounded by a green screen, with Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) on set together.

Twenty-year-old Holland says he still can't believe he's involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, let alone as the web-swinging Spiderman.

"I remember going to see the first Avengers with one of my best mates and I'd never dreamed I'd ever be in one of these movies.

"I'm on top of the world. This is mindblowing."

The video also shows a piece of concept art showing Rocket Raccoon and Thor side-by-side in battle, which is sure to get super fans excited.

Producer Kevin Feige confirmed the rag-tag bunch of intergalactic heroes will join forces with The Avengers.

But he didn't say how or under what circumstances they'd meet.

"You know we're onto something in the studio when we hit upon an idea or see a piece of concept art and all of us in the room go 'this is cool'."

Part one of Avengers: Infinity War is set for release in 2018.
