John Gilbert has won the 2017 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for Best Editing, for his work on Hacksaw Ridge.
The New Zealander previously edited The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, which also scored him BAFTA and Oscar nominations, but the Mel Gibson war epic is his first win at the prestigious UK film awards.
Gilbert says he is "very excited" by the win, but wishes Hacksaw Ridge picked up more trophies.
"Filmmaking is a team effort and everyone else did fabulous work which enabled me to look good - especially Mel Gibson and Andrew Garfield," he says.
Gilbert didn't attend the ceremony and is currently in Los Angeles working on The Professor and the Madman.
Weta Digital has added another trophy to its cabinet as well, picking up the BAFTA for Best Visual Effects.
La La Land led the pack of nominees at this year's BAFTA awards and picked up five, while Ken Loach's powerful I, Daniel Blake was named Best British Film after already winning the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
Emma Stone was named Best Actress while Casey Affleck beat her co-star Ryan Gosling for Best Actress, but La La Land also picked up the major honours of Best Director and Best Film.
A favourite from the 2016 New Zealand Film Festival has also been recognised - Under the Shadow, the creepy Iran-set horror won Oustanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
The BAFTAs is one of the last major award shows in the lead-up to the Oscars, which take place in a fortnight.
