Lady Gaga, Metallica to team up at Grammys

Fresh from her acclaimed performance at Monday's Super Bowl, Lady Gaga will return to the spotlight with metal band Metallica at the upcoming Grammy Awards.

Little is known about the high-powered duet, which was confirmed by Rolling Stone.

Metallica first announced their appearance on January 14, hinting they had "something very unique and special" in store.

Metallica last appeared at the Grammys in 2014 (AAP file)

The band is nominated for Best Rock Song for 'Hardwired'. They are up against David Bowie, Radiohead, Twenty One Pilots and Highly Suspect.

Gaga is not nominated for any awards as her album Joanne was released after the awards deadline.

Metallica's last performance at the awards ceremony was with concert pianist Lang Lang in 2014. Gaga performed a tribute to the late David Bowie at the 2016 awards.

Other acts appearing at the February 12 (local time) ceremony include Beyonce, Katy Perry, The Weeknd, Daft Punk, Adele, Bruno Mars and A Tribe Called Quest.
