Singer Lana Del Rey is promoting the occult as a means of defeating US President Donald Trump.

The 'Young and Beautiful' hitmaker has tweeted out witchcraft instructions to her followers in the form of a series of dates on which to perform spells, along with where to find ingredients.

Del Rey is encouraging people to join witches around the world in carrying out a 'binding ritual' on the former Celebrity Apprentice host, in an effort to remove him from office.

A representative for the singer-songwriter confirmed to media that her tweet "was in reference to the occult ritual dates".

The dates - February 24, March 26, April 24 and May 23 - represent the "waning crescent moon ritual dates", on which the binding ritual will be undertaken.

The ingredients Del Rey refers to includes an "unflattering picture of Trump", a feather, a bit of an orange candle and a Tower tarot card, amongst other things. All ingredients and instructions can be found on the Mass Spell to Bind Donald Trump Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Del Rey says her forthcoming new album has taken on a more political nature.

Talking to BBC Radio recently, she said she's been writing for the last 15 months, originally thinking that record would have "a '50s, '60s feeling, with some kind of Shangri-La, early Joan Baez influences.

"As the climate kept on getting more heated politically, I found, like, lyrically everything was just directed towards that," Del Rey said.

"So because of that, the sound just got really updated, and I felt like it was more wanting to, like, talk to the younger side of the audience I have. I guess it's just a little more socially aware. That's kind of a global feeling."

The first single off her untitled fifth album is 'Love', which was released earlier this month.
