Britney Spears may finally perform in New Zealand this year, almost two decades after the release of her monumental hit '...Baby One More Time'.

The pop superstar announced new shows today for the Philippines in June and Israel in July, reportedly ahead of revealing a major 2017 world tour.

Britney will be performing in Japan, Argentina, Brazil, France, England and Australia this (northern) summer, according to UK tabloid The Daily Star.

It's the last country on that list that should get Kiwi Britney fans excited.

Although New Zealand is not specifically mentioned, similar reports from overseas of musician world tours often overlook the country, perhaps as it's considered part of Australia by some.

"Britney has wanted to tour for ages. Her time in Las Vegas has given her so much more confidence and she can't wait," an insider told the publication.

"The current plan is for the Piece of Me show to be duplicated around the world instead of a whole new set being created from scratch, but discussions are in the early stages."

Britney toured Australia in 2009, with concerts in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. She has never been to New Zealand.

The 'Toxic' hitmaker has held a residency on the Las Vegas strip since 2013.
