Pair responsible for epic Oscars stuff-up won't return

The two people most to blame for the biggest stuff-up in Oscars history won't be returning to the job next year.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) accountants Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz held the winners envelopes during the ceremony and handed them out, but accidentally gave the wrong one to Best Picture presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.

The flub meant La La Land was wrongly announced as the winner of the year's top Academy Award, before Moonlight was rightfully called out.

Academy boss Cheryl Boone Isaacs has now told media Cullinan and Ruiz will not be allowed to work on the 2018 Oscars.

Cullinan in particular has drawn ire in media reports following the epic mistake, with it emerging he was busy tweeting a photo of Emma Stone from backstage minutes before the Best Picture error.

It was that distraction, says Ms Boone Isaacs, that set the ensuing chaos in motion.
