Sony slammed for spoiler-laden new Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer

Marvel fans are fuming after the second official trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming appeared to reveal the majority of the plotline ahead of the release of the upcoming film.

While many trailers for superhero films provide myriad clips of uncontextualised action scenes and the odd funny line, the Spider-Man trailer seems to take viewers through many major plot points - and in chronological order.

The movie appears to be free from the origin story of previous films, and instead focuses on the relationship between Tony Stark's Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and young protégé Peter Parker, who is Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

The trailer reveals that after a stint with the Avengers, Parker returns home and is excited at the prospect of being Spider-Man - but Stark is keeping an eye on him, offering advice and trying to keep his ego reined in.

Stark tells him he is not experienced nor strong enough to fight big-time villains, but Parker continues to fight crime and eventually attracts the attention of new baddie the Vulture (Michael Keaton).

Their battle nearly results in a ferry-load of people drowning - and as a result, Stark takes his suit from Parker, prompting him to make his own.

The end of the trailer sees Parker, in a makeshift Spider-Man suit, fighting the Vulture on the roof of a military plane as it flies over New York.

Many have speculated that the plane scene looks like the climactic final battle, which means distributor Sony has revealed almost every major moment in the film in their latest 160-second trailer.

Marvel fans are urging others not to watch the second trailer if they haven't yet, to avoid disappointment when it comes to watching the full-length version.

However, not all Spider-Man fans had a problem with how much the trailer gave away about the film.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for release in July this year.
