The moment Michael Jackson's son knew his dad was a star

Michael Jackson's usually private children have been surprisingly public recently, with his daughter Paris doing an interview with Rolling Stone magazine and her modelling career starting to take off.

However the late pop star's son Prince has now opened up in a rare interview of his own on ABC News' Good Morning America, while promoting his charity and production company.

Speaking about his father's impact on the music industry, Prince told host Robin Roberts that while he always knew his father was a huge star, there was a particular moment it hit home.

"I guess when we realised it is when we saw videos of him performing. We were out of the country at the time, and we were watching videos of his performances, and I'd been used to seeing most females pass out when they see their artist - and you know, they get very emotional," Prince said.

"But what blew my mind was when I saw these big muscle-bound dudes fainting and having to be dragged out. I was like, 'OK, there's something else going on here'," he laughed.

Twenty-year-old Prince also discussed how his father had encouraged him to pursue whatever it was he felt called to do.

"As we were growing up my dad always said, 'I really don't care what you do in life, as long as you're happy doing it and you're the best at what you do. If you want to be a janitor at a high school, you should be the best janitor that you can be,'" Jackson said.

"I think that he would always be the supporting figure to me and my siblings and support us in all the endeavours that we try."

Prince Michael explained that both his organisations have been inspired by his father in some way.

His charity Heal Los Angeles, which aims to tackle child abuse and homelessness, is named after his song Heal The World, while his production company King's Son Productions is also a reference to Jackson's unofficial title of 'King of Pop'.
