Adele fans were treated to a special surprise performance from a local kapa haka group on Saturday night.

Immediately after her opening song 'Hello', the songstress told the crowd at Mt Smart Stadium "now we're going to do something special".

The 30-strong kapa haka group performed a waiata and the 'Ka Mate' haka to the 45,000-strong crowd, seen in this video Mavis Maihi-Marshall posted to Facebook.

Adele was so moved by the performance, she said it affected her voice for the next track.

"How amazing was that haka?" she asked the crowd. "It was so overwhelming... I think I started my second song off-key."

Adele has one show left of her international tour, tonight at Mt Smart. More than 100,000 tickets have been sold to her three shows.
