Disney confirms Frozen 2 release date

Parents, consider yourselves warned: the Frozen juggernaut will return to cinemas in late 2019.

Disney has confirmed a United States release date of November 27, 2019 for the sequel to 2013's smash hit animated musical.

It's expected that Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel will return to their roles of princess sisters Anna and Elsa, so expect some more epic songs. Josh Gad will again voice adorable snowman Olaf and Jennifer Lee will stay in the director's chair.

Little else is known about the sequel, although the movie's producer told EW in March that the film was already in the development writing process.

"Now that we've been involved in it for a while, what's exciting is it feels like it builds on the first movie," he said.

"You understand things better in the first movie after you've seen the sequel."

For Frozen fans who just can't wait until 2019, a stage version of the musical will begin previews in Denver this August, before moving to Broadway in early 2018.

Disney announced Frozen 2's release date on Wednesday along with a slew of other highly anticipated films, including Star Wars: Episode IX.

A live-action remake of another Disney animated classic, The Lion King, is slated for release on July 19, 2019 - around a month after Toy Story 4.

The first Frozen film is the ninth most successful in movie history, raking in more than $1.2 billion in ticket sales worldwide.
