Labyrinth sequel in the works

Dance magic, dance! A sequel to the beloved 1980s musical Labyrinth is reportedly in development, with the late Jim Henson's daughter, Lisa, set to produce.

The original fantasy film starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connolly, along with a large assortment of Henson's puppets, and became a cult hit after flopping at the box office.

Fede Alvarez is set to write and direct the sequel after notable horror movies Don't Breathe and his remake of Evil Dead, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He is currently working on a sequel to Girl With the Dragon Tattoo after which he is said to be moving onto the Labyrinth project with Sony's Tri-Star Pictures.

While a remake of Labyrinth has long been rumoured, the new film is believed to be a continuation of the original's story rather than a remake, reimagining or reboot.

Bowie's Goblin King character will not feature in the sequel, according to insiders, but there's no word on if Sarah (Connolly) or her little brother will be returning.
