Avatar Cirque du Soleil show heading to New Zealand

Kiwi fans of James Cameron's Avatar film should be interested in Cirque du Soleil's Toruk, which will debut in New Zealand this September.

The show promises "a riveting fusion of cutting-edge visuals, puppetry and stagecraft buoyed by a soaring cinematic score".

It's a narrated experience whose storyline is set on the planet Pandora thousands of years before the events depicted in the 2009 film.

"We are delighted to see this epic journey take flight in New Zealand, a country so rich in culture and scenery as can be found on Pandora," says director and writer Michel Lemieux.

Cirque du Soleil's Toruk - The First Flight takes place at Christchurch's Horncastle Arena from September 1 - 10 and Auckland's Spark Arena from September 15 - 24.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on May 15.
