Harry Styles ticket sellers make scalpers toe the line

Former One Direction star Harry Styles is to perform in New Zealand and his promoter has put in place strict anti-scalping rules for ticket sales.

To combat reselling of Harry Styles tickets, promoter Frontier Touring has a new policy.

The buyer will have to physically be at the venue on the night to prove their identity, even if they aren't going to the concert.

"The buyer must attend check-in at the venue on show day to have their ID crosschecked. Tickets alone will NOT give you entry," the fine print reads.

Consumer Sue Chetwin says she's concerned the ticket sellers have "created a rod for their own backs"

"They are making it so difficult to get in and if it's going to take so long to get into the concert people are going to have to get there hours beforehand."

Ian Magan from NZ Promoters Association said that "until these kinds of practices are legislated against, more and more promoters are going to have to deal with that kind of situation where they are going to have to ask for proof of sale."

Promoters are meeting the government this week and Consumer is considering laying a complaint about the reselling websites with the Commerce Commission.

Tickets for Harry Styles' one off show go on sale this Friday. For people buying for others, don't forget you might not be going to the show, but you will be going to the venue.
